Tissue specificity – Mammary gland and pancreas. Detected in pancreatic and duodenal juice (at protein level). Expressed by eosinophils.

High level of expression – The only high level of expression for MODY8 is the pancreas

1.     What are three aspects about your protein that excite you or you are curious about?

I do not understand a lot of the scientific terminology but understanding more about how and why bile salt-activated lipase specifically is associated with MODY8 has been something I have been interested about. I am interested as to why MODY8 is highly expressed in the pancreas. I also find it exciting to learn about the structure of my protein I think the 3d models of the proteins are awesome to actually be able to view, especially when some of the models we viewed such as the ones on Itasser were predicted models.

2.     Consider the pathway we began with (digestive) and the diseases associated with your protein, are there any potential project ideas that come to mind? Do not limit your thinking, if your interest lies in bacterial research think microbiome or in molecular genetics- think expression analysis or CRISPR gene editing. At this point the sky is the limit!

I am not too sure of what kind of project to come up with since I am a computer science major, but hopefully Stacy or Chad can help me think of something more in my lane.
